Supportive Counselling

Students examine the theory, skills and qualities of a professional helping relationship. Emphasis is placed on the values that form the foundation of supportive counselling: respect, genuineness, empathy and empowerment. The significance and impact of relationships, processes of problem-management, finding creative solutions, goal setting and implementation are examined. Opportunities for practice and self-reflection are provided.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
