Centre for Access

The Centre for Access and Disability Services provides students with supports that are essential for their success at college. We provide specialized and enhanced services related to:

  • academic accommodations,
  • counselling,
  • educational assessments,
  • testing,
  • faculty coaches and peer tutors,
  • training in the use of specialized computer technology and in learning strategies to assist students with specific learning and physical disabilities.

Services are also provided to students with documented short term disabilities.

Supports for students with disabilities may include:

  • Referral for up-to-date educational and psychological assessments
  • Individual Education Plans
  • Ongoing support from our Disability Specialists
  • Tutoring
  • Learning strategies
  • Training in the use of specialized computer technology
  • Advice and mentoring
  • Classroom and test accommodations

Transition Courses Offered

Transitioning into College Courses    

New for 2012, the Centre for Access is please to offer two unique programs for students with a specific learning disability, ADHD, or Autism Spectrum Disorders.

 Skills for Success – Lifestyle Management

Designed for students with a specific learning disability and/or ADHD preparing to enter a Georgian College program in September 2012 or January 2013.  This is a single credit course.

ASD Transition Program

New for 2012, this program has been created for students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder scheduled to graduate high school in June of 2012 or 2013.  This four week program (3 days per week) provides information and skills for students considering attending a post secondary institution after receiving their high school diploma.
