Student success in Colleg depends as much on well developed learning skills and attitudes as on prior academic achievement, according to recent research. While achievement is of major importance in program admissions, other skills – such as being able to work independently, participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative – are those that result in greatest success in college. By contrast, students lacking these skills are less likely to become well integrated into college programs and more likely to leave without completion. Applicants should therefore develop these skills and attitudes before beginning their college programs.

Designated parking for persons with disabilities is located in parking areas throughout the College grounds. Only vehicles displaying a valid Ontario Ministry of Transportation Disabled Parking Permit may park in these designated areas. Drivers of these vehicles are subject to the same rules and regulations and pay the same fee as all others parking on campus. Individuals with disabilities are not exempt from ticketing and/or towing.
Handicapped individuals being dropped off or picked up and not using parking facilities are asked to make arrangements through their program office for exit at no cost to the drop-off or pick-up vehicle. The cities of Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound bylaw officers will issue tickets and/or tow with respect to abuses of handicapped parking spaces on campus.

Georgian College encourages academically qualified people with special needs to apply for admission to its programs. While all students must satisfy the usual admission and graduation requirements, the College recognizes that students with special needs may require individualized assistance. This assistance is also available to students with short-term special needs. Students with learning disabilities should contact the Learning Disabilities co-ordinator at (705) 722-1523 to discuss opportunities at Georgian College and to request special admission consideration. For details about the modified admissions process, please visit Georgian’s Centre for Access and Disability Services website at: www.georgianc.on.ca/c4a/ .
The College adheres to the Ontario Human Rights Code and will make every effort to provide reasonable academic accommodation to students who have special needs. These accommodations provide special needs students with an equal opportunity to meet the standards of the courses in their programs.
To discuss services and accommodations, students must contact the Disability Services office upon being admitted to the College. Students will be required to forward all related documentation about their disability to the Disability Services office.

Tuition and other compulsory fees for the Fall 2009 semester must be paid or deferred by June 23, 2009, (June 22, 2010, for fall 2010) unless the student is otherwise informed in writing by the Office of the Registrar. Fees for subsequent semesters are due as follows: November 24, 2009, for winter 2010 programs; March 23, 2010, for summer 2010 programs. These are the deadlines for discounted fees. After these deadlines, a surcharge of $65 will be added to the total amount owing.
For students with start dates other than those listed above, fees for the semester are due approximately six weeks before the commencement of classes. Fees may be paid by certified cheque, money order, debit or credit card. Please note that personal cheques are not accepted.
Registration in a course or program is not complete until full fees are paid or partially deferred for that semester. Students who fail to pay full fees and have not arranged for a fee deferral will not be permitted to register for the program. Also, students who fail to pay fees or arrange for a deferral by the due date must pay a $65 non-refundable surcharge. In addition, students who pay after the published deadline will register at a later date than those students who pay by the due date.
Native students who are non-residents of Canada have the same rights and obligations as Canadian citizens, pursuant to The Indian Act. Accordingly, non-resident Native students will be charged the same tuition rate as Canadian citizens.
International students must, upon acceptance to the College, remit a payment of $750 to confirm their place in the program ($500 of which is non-refundable). Students who fail to pay fees by the required due dates will be charged a $65 surcharge and may risk forfeiting their place at the College. If full fees are not remitted, the student may be required to withdraw from the College.
