Alumni Recognition Opportunities
Georgian College provides a number of opportunities to recognize the success of graduates:
- Premier’s Awards
- Board of Governors’ Distinguished Alumni Award
- Other Board of Governors’ Awards of Distinction
- Helen and Arch Brown Honourary Alumni Award
- Profile in the Alumni View Magazine
Premier’s Awards
The Premier’s Awards are an annual provincial awards program created by the government to acknowledge the important economic and social contribution college graduates make to Ontario. The Premier’s Awards are administered by Colleges Ontario.
Any graduate of a college program may be nominated. The person must have demonstrated outstanding career success and be making a contribution to their community or society.
Colleges may nominate one graduate in each of the following categories:
- Applied Arts: Creative Arts and Design
- Applied Arts: Community Services
- Business
- Health Sciences
- Technology
- Recent Graduate
The Alumni Office welcomes suggestions for nominations at any time, however, the deadline for each particular year is the beginning of March. In the first instance, please contact the Alumni Office at 705-728-1968, ext. 1128. You will need to supply the following information:
- A cover letter by the person making the nomination
- Nominee’s program and year of graduation
- A copy of the nominee’s resume or CV
- Copies of any relevant media clippings or awards.
All suggestions will be reviewed by an internal selection committee and the College will forward one official nomination for each category to the Premier’s Office.
Official college nominees will be invited to attend the annual Premier’s Awards Dinner, and will receive a framed certificate signed by the Premier of Ontario.
Board of Governor’s Distinguished Alumni Award
Every year during May, the Board of Governor’s of Georgian College recognize graduates who:
- have achieved an exceptionally high level of career success
- have received professional recognition in their field
- have made a significant contribution to Georgian, or the community in general

The Helen and Arch Brown Honourary Alumni Award
The designation of Honourary Alumni is given to individuals who have made a significant and lasting contribution to Georgian College. Individuals awarded Honourary Alumni status will enjoy all of the same rights and privileges bestowed upon a Graduate Alumni.
Nomination Criteria – Candidates must:
- Be in good standing with the College.
- Have made significant contributions to the advancement of Georgian College through financial, academic or advocacy merits.
- Have demonstrated their understanding of the importance of alumni to the sustainability of Georgian College.
- Helped to promote the GCAA internally and/or at large.

Alumni Profiles in the Alumni View Magazine
Suggestions for alumni profiles in the Alumni View magazine are always welcome. Graduates should be enjoying career success, and have an interesting story to tell.
The Alumni View typically produces three to five profiles per issue, and strives to maintain a campus, program, and gender balance. Although appreciated, not all suggestions for alumni profiles can be accommodated.
