Sataru Otai began working at Magna International as a co-op student and following his official graduation from Georgian College, he continued working in various Magna plants and divisions throughout Ontario and the United States. In September 2009, Satoru secured a position at Magna International Japan as a sales Coordinator.

“Every day at work I feel the dynamism of global business and its challenges, but I consider this my personal growth opportunity.

Georgian is a leading co-op college in Canada and they proved it by helping me get to where I am now. Many thanks to Georgian College!”

Georgian Grad Honoured to Carry Olympic Torch

Rhonda Baxter (Hospitality and Tourism 1988, Barrie Campus) entered a contest to carry the Vancouver 2010 Olympic torch and won! Her experience has left her with a memory she will cherish forever: ”I was so proud to carry the Olympic flame…as I was the only person in the world to have it at that exact moment”.

Woodworking, hockey and Georgian – a winning combination for Rick Hopper

When Rick Hopper decided to come to Georgian College in 1982, he brought with him a passion for two things he loved to do – woodworking and playing hockey. Fortunately Georgian was able to support Rick’s passion with both an Applied Arts furniture and building program, and a varsity hockey team. Both taught him practical skills along with valuable work ethic that he still uses today.

After Rick graduated as the program’s top student, he became the head coach of Georgian’s Grizzlies hockey team. From there many doors were open to Rick, and soon he was off to B.C. to become assistant coach and director of player personnel for the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League.

But his love for woodworking was not forgotten and he decided to open up his own business, Country Woodworkers, in 1993. Although woodworking had its challenges at times, Rick took the vital knowledge that he was taught at Georgian and applied it to his business – making him and Country Woodworkers very successful to this day.

“The best thing I ever did was go to Georgian College. It was the best decision I ever made.”

How do I know if I am a Georgian Alumni Member?

All alumni as defined by the Office of the Registrar at Georgian College. Membership will include graduates of full-time and part-time (once fee has been received) post-secondary or certificate programs. Members must have successfully completed their program of study and received their diplomas or certificates.

Is there any cost to join the Alumni Association?

Yes, there is a membership fee and it is paid in the first semester of the first year of your program. This is a one time charge that gives you a lifetime membership into the Alumni Association.

I no longer receive the Alumni View magazine. How can I get back on the mailing list?

Georgian Graduate wins Gold!

Jon Montgomery (CAI 2000, Barrie Campus) has won the gold in men’s Skeleton. He was sitting in second with one race to go, but put in an amazing perfomance to take the gold at the Whistler Sliding Centre. He edged Latvia’s Martins Dukurs by just 0.07 seconds.

Dukurs who led the competition after Day 1, and through three runs was sitting 0.18s ahead of Jon, but Jon laid down a track record-setting time in his opening run on Friday to pull closer to that gold medal with one heat to go. And he saved his best start for last, clocking a time of 4.61s en route to a 52.36s run.
