At convocation ceremonies Oct. 26, the Board of Governors awarded two honourary Bachelor of Applied Studies Degrees.
The first was presented to Brian Bentz, the President and CEO of PowerStream Inc. Throughout his career at PowerStream, Brian has always kept Georgian College top of mind. As a graduate of Georgian himself, he was a driving force in the development of the new Centre for Sustainable Technologies. Under his leadership, $750,000 was donated to Georgian from PowerStream for the new centre.
The second honourary degree recipient was Laura Formusa, President and CEO of Hydro One. In 2008, Laura oversaw the development of a unique Hydro One partnership with Georgian and three other Ontario colleges. Hydro One contributed $3 million over four years for scholarships, program development, co-op placements and equipment.
The Honourary Bachelor of Applied Studies degree is presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to society, achieved noted accomplishments in a particular field of study or applied education, and enhanced or promoted the College’s image and reputation in Ontario or elsewhere.
