CORWALL, Ont. – Katie Ferguson, head coach of the Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s golf teams, was named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Coach of the Year at the OCAA golf championships awards ceremony.
Ferguson guided her teams to silver medal finishes at this year’s championships and a spot in the 2011 PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships, to be held later this month at the Brudenell River Golf Course in Rosenath, P.E.I.
She will be the OCAA nominee for the CCAA Coach of the Year award to be presented at the awards banquet during the championship tournament.
Ferguson has been head coach of the Grizzlies for six seasons and has been instrumental in building the program to national prominence with both teams currently ranked in the top ten. The men, bronze medal winners at last year’s CCAA Nationals, are ranked 3rd , while the women occupy the 9th spot.
“ I am honoured to receive this award,” said the Georgian graduate. “’I have been blessed to be able to work with many wonderful student-athletes during my time at Georgian and this group in no exception. We are excited to head to P.E.I. and compete with the best.”
Ferguson was an outstanding student-athlete during her time at Georgian, winning Female Athlete of the Year honours on two occasions and taking home OCAA and CCAA championship titles. She is a member of the OCAA Hall of Fame.
