Grizzlies Earn Weekend Split

Barrie, ON – The Georgian Grizzlies women’s volleyball team picked up a win and a loss in the first home league matches of the year. 

In their home opener on Saturday, the Grizzlies lost a tough five-set match to the Cambrian Golden Shield, 3-2 (25, 21, 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-12).

The Grizzlies led 9-5 in the fifth and deciding set, but Kelsey Fielding and Shawna Metcalf keyed the Cambrian comeback to take the final set 15-12. Fielding finished the afternoon with 27 points (24 kills, 3 aces) and Metcalf had 19 kills.

Bailee Yasher led Georgian with 15 points (11 kills, 3 aces, 1 block), while Hannah Campbell had 14 points (10 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks). Alyssa Dykstra and Natalie Buck scored 10 points apiece.

The women made short work of the Boreal Vipers on Sunday afternoon, winning in straight sets, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-10). Yasher was top scorer with 8 points (7 kills, 1 ace), as the Grizzlies were able to get all of their players some game action.

The Grizzlies are now 2-1 in league play.
