Grizzlies Feel The Sting

Barrie, ON – The Georgian Grizzlies basketball teams closed out the first semester of play with a pair of losses against the Seneca Sting last night.

The women lost 74-37 to the undefeated Sting. Seneca held a 38-20 advantage at the half and outscored the Grizzlies 25-8 in the final quarter.

Tara Minicuci led the Sting with 14 points and Chanel Grellmore added 13. Danielle Horvat was Georgian’s top scorer with 8 points. She also grabbed 7 rebounds.

It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Grizzlies who are now 2-6 heading into the break

The men fell to 5-5 on the season as they dropped an 87-81 decision to the Sting.

The teams were tied at 32 points apiece at the half, but the Sting broke open the tight game with a 16-3 run late in the third quarter.

Seneca’s Ben Rolley had 18 points, going 4/6 from behind the arc, while Jermaine Lightbody added 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Shane Rowe and Jevon Francis had double-doubles for the Grizzlies. Rowe had 23 points and 18 rebounds, while Francis scored 13 points to go along with 12 boards. Guard Mark Brown added 14 points.

The Grizzlies struggled from the free throw converting on 21 of 38 attempts.

Both teams will now break for exams and resume league play in January.
