Lady Hoopsters Split

Belleville, ON – The Georgian College women’s basketball team started out the 2011-12 regular season on the right note, defeating the St. Lawrence Vikings 61-33 in Kingston on Saturday, before falling 56-39 to the Loyalist Lancers in game two of their road trip on Sunday afternoon.

The Grizzlies were in total control of the game on Saturday, holding the Vikings to only 3 points in the opening quarter. Megan Robertson scored 13 points and Danielle Horvat had 12. Rookie Katie Wiggins scored 11 points and Kimberly Solorzano pulled down 10 rebounds.

Against the Lancers, Georgian trailed 27-26 at the half, but struggled offensively in the second half, scoring only 13 points. Horvat scored 13 for the Grizzlies, while Roberton chipped in with 11.

The Grizzlies (1-1) will play the Durham Lords (1-0) on Wednesday night in their home opener.
