Perfect Weekend for Men’s Volleyball

Peterborough, ON – The Georgian Grizzlies men’s volleyball team went undefeated on their weekend trip to Peterborough.

On Friday night, Georgian won 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-14) against the Fleming Knights. Leading scorers were Mike Hammond with 9 points (7 kills, 2 blocks) and Josh Deppisch with 8 points (6 kills, 1 block, 1 ace).

Against Trent University on Saturday, the Grizzlies defeated the Excalibur 3-1 (25-14, 25-14, 23-25, 26-24). Georgian’s offense and blocking were dominant in the first two sets.

Trent took the third set, and were leading 24-22 in the fourth, before Georgian scored four straight points to take the set and the match. Hammond stuff blocked the last two Trent attacks for the win, as the team finished the match with a season-high 17 blocks.

Hammond led the team with 19 points (12 kills, 1 ace and 6 blocks), while Deppisch added 14 points (8 kills, 1 ace and 5 blocks). Andy Carriere with 13 points (10 kills, 2 aces and 1 block) and Atley Stock with 12 points (9 kills, 3 aces) were the other leading scorers.

The Grizzlies are now 4-1 in league play and will face two tough opponents this week. Georgian travels to Seneca on Wednesday to take on the Sting before returning home to face the Loyalist Lancers on Sunday afternoon.
