Hiring a Grad or Co-op/Internship Student

Thinking about hiring a Georgian College Grad or Co-op/Internship Student?

Here’s what you need to do…

HIRING GRADS & CO-OP/INTERNSHIP STUDENTS:

  1. Fill out a detailed job posting online. Include the following:
  • Which program you are interested in hiring from
  • Your contact information (Name, title, company name, address, phone, extension, fax and email address)
  • Position title, duties and responsibilities
  • Qualifications you are seeking
  • Wage or salary – always a good incentive to attract candidates
  • Method of application (resume, cover letter, transcript?)
  • Closing date for the posting

HIRE A CO-OP/INTERNSHIP STUDENT:

  1. Review applications and select which students you would like to interview
  2. Interviewing Students. Interviews can take place at Georgian College or at your location, just let us know and we’re happy to make arrangements.
  3. Job Offers. Select which candidate is the best one for your organization and then let us know who you would like to hire, along with additional rankings if applicable.  For co-op students we will confirm with you if the student accepts the position.
  4. Provide a detailed job description to the student(s), provide adequate training, orientation and mentoring so the student(s) are familiar with your expectations.  Provide on-the-job supervision and increase the degree of challenging duties according to the student’s capabilities.  Complete an Employer Evaluation form prior to the end of the work term and let us know if there’s anything we can assist with during the co-op term.
  5. Note: It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to:
    1. Register on Banner.
    2. Provide the College with a Learning Agreement to let us know where they are working and what they are doing. This is due once the student confirms their new co-op position.
    3. Submit a report about their co-op/internship work experience and identify learning outcomes related to their program
    4. Submit their employer evaluation in order to receive credit for their co-op experience
  6. A Georgian College Co-op/Internship staff member will contact you once a posting is submitted to confirm any details and make any required arrangements necessary.  A Co-op/Internship Consultant will also follow up with you and the student part way through the work term to complete a monitor to see how things are going for both you and the student.  We appreciate open communication and want to help in anyway we can to ensure a positive experience for all.
