Hairstyling Apprenticeship

Georgian delivers the provincial curriculum which includes a blend of theory and hands-on experience.

As part of your training with Georgian, you will receive hands-on experience working on clients in our on-campus salon.

What we offer

  • state-of-the-art facility on campus
  • high-quality instruction delivered by licensed hairstylists
  • go to school one day (six hours) per week (allows you to work while going to school)
  • Georgian College Certificate upon completion of the Advanced program

How it works

  • find an employer who is willing to sponsor you as an apprentice.
  • you and your employer register with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU)
  • your apprenticeship will be 3,500 hours which includes in-school training (480 hours) and on-the-job training (3020 hours)
  • classroom fee is $400 per in-school level (two levels) plus $300 for textbooks, $300 for mannequins and a full tool kit is required (around $800)

Georgian’s Program

  • Barrie and Bracebridge Campuses

Level One (Basic)

  • 240 hours
  • 60% in-class, 40% hands-on
  • six hours/week for 40 weeks
  • (September – June)

Level Two (Advanced)

  • 240 hours
  • 25% in-class, 75% hands-on
  • six hours/week for 40 weeks
  • (September – June)

Grade 12 entrance requirement

  • recommended (not required)courses: science, communications, basic math, marketing, and business

  • be exposed to chemicals

  • be up-to-date on current trends

Admission requirements

  • currently employed in the trade and formally registered as an apprentice
  • OSSD or equivalent

Eligibility is determined by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU),  Apprenticeship and Client Services.
