The most important aspect of this course is to understand the forms and applications of energy. Sustainability has become a critical factor in all aspects of society. The certification gives students the knowledge and skills to support team based implementation of solar photovoltaic, geothermal, and energy saving technologies and strategies in residential, commercial and industry settings. Graduates may find employment in the areas of energy auditing, performing building or equipment retrofitting, assisting residential and commercial developers achieve goals of energy efficient design, installing and/or maintaining renewable energy equipment, augmenting the LEED program, and consulting on energy matters. This program has no formal requirements. People currently working in the industry or who have completed post-secondary education in a related field will benefit the most from this program.</p>

As students progress through the courses, they will learn to consider design, fabrics, drape, finishing and lines to apply to their sewing techniques.</p>

<p>Graduates will be able to pursue opportunities in the custom garment making or alterations industry. This program is ideal for someone starting out in the custom garment design and alterations industry and who wants to stay close to home or begin a second career.</p>

Students will learn how to draft and sew skirts using the European style pattern and garment making methods. Starting from pencil skirts and going to A-line, gored and circle skirts, students will create patterns and muslins in personal sizes.</li>

Using the European pattern and garment making methods, this course covers drafting and sewing pants from waistline to hemline including pockets and front fly zippers. Students learn to create custom pants and jeans that fit well.</li>

<li>GINT0160 European Pattern Making: Module 3: Tops and Dresses (24 hours)<br />
Using the European style pattern and garment making methods, this course covers drafting and sewing sleeveless tops and simple sleeveless dresses. Students learn to add darts, create armholes and necklines making adjustments as necessary for ease of movement.</li>

<li>GINT0161 European Pattern Making: Module 4: All About Sleeves (18 hours)<br />
Expanding on the European style pattern and garment making techniques for sleeveless tops and simple sleeveless dresses, students are introduced to various types of sleeves including dolman, raglan, set-in and cap to name a few. Students will draft and sew a top and/or a dress with the perfect fit sleeve style of their choosing.</li>

Using the European style pattern and garment making methods, students expand on sleeve styles and designs. Collars, buttons and buttonholes will be introduced as students draft and sew more structured tops and blouses. Students will draft and fit a strapless dress.</li>

This course is dedicated to drafting and sewing a classic tailored blazer using the European pattern making techniques. Program completion requires six courses which are also credits toward a Georgian College Business diploma. Students can expect to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for an entry level position in a variety of retail settings</p>
<h2>Admission Requirements</h2>
<p>Applicants following the OSS curriculum must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD &#8211; 30 credits) or equivalent. Applicants following the OSS curriculum must also have Grade 12 English (C) or (U) (ENG 4C, ENG 4U) and any Grade 12 College Mathematics (MAP 4C or MCT 4C), or any Grade 12 University Mathematics.<br />
Applicants who are 19 years of age or over by the first day of classes, and who lack the academic admission qualifications, may be considered for entrance as mature students. Each applicant will be considered on an individual basis and acceptance will be determined by counselling, Communication Placement Assessment (CPA), previous post-secondary education and evaluation of experience. Some programs also have specific prerequisite requirements that must be met prior to admission. Mature applicants must meet all program specific prerequisites. Those applying as mature students and having no documentation of Grade 12 education must supply, if requested, proof of age, such as a copy of an official birth certificate or driver&#8217;s licence.</p>
