Bursaries

The bursaries listed below are administered by Financial Aid and are subject to the availability of funding each year. We also encourage you to apply for Georgian’s more than 750 awards and scholarships, with a combined total of over $750,000 – and they’re not just for students with high grades!

Georgian Bursary

What is the Georgian Bursary?

Georgian College has established a bursary fund to aid eligible students who have applied for OSAP and require additional assistance in funding postsecondary expenses.

  • the bursary is valued at a minimum of $500, though the value can vary from term to term as funds permit
  • the bursary will be applied as a payment toward any outstanding balance with the college, or as a deposit toward the following semester’s tuition (if applicable)

Who is eligible?

  • you must have completed an OSAP application for the current academic year
  • you must be enrolled full-time in the current academic year and be in good standing

What are the deadlines?

  • fall term: Oct. 15, 2017
  • winter term: Feb. 15, 2018
  • summer term: June 15, 2018

What information do I need to fill out this form?

Indigenous Student Bursary


The Indigenous Student Bursary provides aid to Indigenous students in financial need who are attending either:

  • publicly-assisted colleges and universities in Ontario
  • an approved Indigenous institution in Ontario

Eligibility criteria

  • you must be considered an Ontario resident:
    • resident of Ontario for a minimum of 12 months prior to the first day of study at Georgian College
  • you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
  • you must be enrolled in the current academic year of study in a postsecondary program and be in good academic standing
  • you must be an Indigenous student who has self-identified with the college:
    • if you have not self-identified, please email Kathy Marsden or phone 705.728.1968, ext. 1316
  • you must demonstrate financial need on the budget provided and complete the Indigenous Student Bursary application in full

Deadline

The completed application MUST be submitted by the last business day in January.

Métis Nation of Ontario Bursary

Eligibility criteria

  • open to students in financial need who are of Métis ancestry and are enrolled in any year, in any program, at any Georgian College campus
  • the Métis Nation of Ontario Bursary Application form must be completed and returned to the Financial Aid office C/O Georgian College Barrie Campus, One Georgian Dr., Barrie ON L4M 3X9
  • award recipients are determined by the Métis Nation of Ontario in co-operation with the Financial Aid office, Georgian College

If you believe you meet the above criteria, please submit the completed application by the last business day in January.

Ontario First Generation Bursary

First Generation students studying at a public Ontario college or university are considered for this bursary. To be eligible, a student must not have parents who attended postsecondary studies.

 Eligibility criteria

  • you must be considered an Ontario resident:
    • resident of Ontario for a minimum of 12 months prior to the first day of study at Georgian College
  • you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
  • you must be a student whose parents have never attended part- or full-time postsecondary studies in Canada or elsewhere
  • you must have completed an OSAP application for the current academic year:
    • you do not need to have been approved or use the funding; however, you need to have applied
  • you must be enrolled in the current academic year of study in a postsecondary program and be in good standing
  • you must demonstrate financial need on the budget provided and complete the Ontario First Generation Bursary application in full

PLEASE NOTE: Students enrolled in second-entry programs, graduate or professional programs, as well as students receiving assistance through the Second Career program, are NOT eligible for this bursary.

The Barrie Campus Financial Aid office is located within the Office of the Registrar. Office hours are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Staff members in the Office of the Registrar at our other campus locations are available to assist with general inquiries.

The Orillia Campus Financial Aid office is located in Room A100A within the Office of the Registrar. Office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and we encourage you to call ahead and book an appointment if you are travelling to our campus for service.
