Each new year, college students face any number of common issues or obstacles. First Generation students are the first in their family to attend college or university (their parents did not attend college or university). Although First Generation families are often supportive, they may not have the knowledge of the post secondary system. Georgian College’s First Generation program includes mentors to assist students with questions, concerns or advice around post secondary life. We also offer events and activities for First Gen students.
We can help you connect with:
- Assistance with writing, computers and/or math including peer tutoring
- Financial aid applications for bursaries and scholarships, including ones for First Generation students specifically
- Disability supports and student supports, including counselling
- Information on student benefits
- General questions about where to go and who to see regarding questions you might have
- Housing and parking questions
- Workshops on a variety of topics to help make your experience at college an enriching and positive one (student budgeting, time management, stress management, improving your study skills and so on)
Not sure if there is something in place to deal with an issue or question you have? Speak to us and see. We’re here to support you.
