WHO ARE FIRST GENERATION STUDENTS?
A First Generation student is any person who is the first in their family to enrol in a post-secondary program (university, college or an apprenticeship).
Statistics suggest 1 in 3 new students are first generation. They can be straight out of high school or mature students who have been in the workforce for years.
Georgian recognizes that questions will undoubtedly arise for every new student. The First Generation program is there to assist and support students, when they do.
HOW DO I CONTACT SOMEONE IN THE FIRST GENERATION PROGRAM?
Online, via telephone/email or in person. There is a First Generation Facebook Group and online chatting coming soon. There are three mentors who together support all of Georgian College’s campuses. In addition to the personal email addresses and extensions, there is also a general email address where you can send questions (firstgen@georgianc.on.ca).
Not every student will need or want support/assistance. Just know that we’re here if you do.
