Hydro One continues partnership with Georgian College with another $750,000 investment

Five years ago Hydro One launched a partnership with Georgian College to promote careers in the utility sector and train more students to become the company’s future workforce. The partnership has been so successful that Hydro One announced it will continue the partnership with a second $750,000 investment in Georgian College’s School of Engineering Technology.

Georgian students help build their new home in South Georgian Bay

Post-secondary students are investing in their futures by doing a lot more than hitting the books.

The Student Administrative Council (SAC) of Georgian College announced on Monday it is donating more than $100,000 to the new John Di Poce South Georgian Bay Campus.

The announcement made during the grand opening ceremony, brings Georgian’s fundraising campaign for the new campus to 60 per cent of its $750,000 goal.

$1.5-million gift makes waves for Georgian’s marine programs

The largest and most sophisticated marine navigation simulator at Georgian College’s marine training centre will be named after one of the country’s shipping industry leaders, Jack Leitch.

Leitch has donated $1.5 million to the Great Lakes International Marine Training and Research Centre (GLIMTRC), located at the Owen Sound Campus. The centre features four navigational training bridges and an engine room simulator, all designed to simulate real life marine scenarios.

Paul Sadlon drives Health and Wellness fundraising goal past finish line with $2-million donation

On the opening day of Georgian College’s new Health and Wellness Centre, Barrie businessman Paul Sadlon helped the college complete its fundraising goal for the new facility by announcing his gift of $2 million.

Sadlon’s donation brings the total raised for the Sadlon Centre for Health and Wellness, located at the Barrie Campus, to $14.5 million. Georgian had set a goal to raise $13.5 million to improve local health care education with this state-of-the-art 172,000-square-foot expansion.

“Health care professionals are a critical part of any community. As someone who has called Simcoe County home for more than 40 years, it is important to me to invest in the future of this community,” said Sadlon.

Rotary rallies for health care education

Georgian College students and staff think Rotary rocks! The Rotary clubs of Barrie, Barrie-Huronia and Kempenfelt have collectively donated $475,000 in support of Georgian’s Centre for Health and Wellness and scholarships for students studying health and wellness programs.

One hundred and forty-five Rotarians from the Barrie, Barrie-Huronia, Innisfil, Kempenfelt and Springwater clubs visited Georgian on Aug. 11 for a club meeting and to learn more about the new community clinics, classrooms, technology and programs for health and wellness students that will be part of the 172,000-square-foot centre.

Elliott family donates $1 million to Centre for Health and Wellness

John and Margaret Elliott spent their careers in hands-on occupations – he as a tradesman and business owner and she as a home economics teacher. Applied learning was their specialty and it is a reason why they chose to support Georgian College with a $1-million donation.

The contribution is in support of Georgian’s Centre for Health and Wellness at the Barrie Campus, opening on Aug. 31. The centre will feature six community-accessible health clinics and multiple simulation labs where students will receive hands-on training in their health care discipline.

Georgian College receives $1.5-million gift for entrepreneurship education

Georgian College is blazing a new trail in the academic sector by becoming the first college in Ontario to secure a $1-million endowed chair.

The donation has been made by Henry Bernick, an entrepreneur and Barrie’s first land developer, who has been instrumental in the growth of the local real estate market since the 1950s. He has given the gift, which includes an additional $500,000 to create the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre, with a goal of supporting entrepreneurship education and encouraging innovation in his hometown. The Centre is set to open in January 2012.

Blue Mountain Resort carves out $100,000 donation

Blue Mountain Resorts Limited, a pillar of the South Georgian Bay community for more than seven decades, has illustrated its support for the development of the region’s first permanent post-secondary education institution in a big way.

The company has donated $100,000 in support of Georgian College’s new John Di Poce South Georgian Bay Campus.
