The Georgian College community gathers to celebrate the awarding of degrees, diplomas and certificates at Convocation. As a family member or friend of one of our graduands, Georgian welcomes you.

Location

All Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound ceremonies will take place in the campus gym. If you are attending a ceremony at another campus, please check the schedule for that specific campus for location information.

Seating

Guests with tickets are asked to arrive at least a half hour before the ceremony is to begin. Guests that arrive without tickets will be asked to sit in the overflow section, if there are seats available.

Unfortunately, due to fire regulations, we are not able to issue extra tickets to any graduate. If you need more tickets, you are welcome to use extras from another student set to attend the same ceremony.  Barrie students will receive three tickets, Owen Sound and Orillia students will receive two. Some tickets will be green in color as others will be yellow, there is no difference – both colors will be accepted.

Guests who arrive late may be asked to wait and will be seated at an appropriate break in the ceremony. Out of respect for all ceremony attendees, we ask that you remain until the end of the ceremony.

Dress

While there is no formal dress code, most people will be dressed in a business casual style. If you are carrying a cell phone, please ensure the ringer is turned off.

Children

Parents are reminded that although the ceremony is for the whole family, young children may find it a long time to sit quietly. Please be aware that if you do bring a young child and the child creates any disturbance, you may be asked to leave the auditorium with them. There are no daycare facilities available on campus.

Picture Taking

Personal picture taking can be done during or after the ceremony. While we recognize that getting a picture at the moment is important, students will not be able to stop and pose for pictures (due to time constraints). Please show discretion when taking pictures and do not block others or aisles – otherwise you may be asked to move.

Food and Drinks

There is no food allowed in the gymnasium – and no drinks other than bottled water.
You are invited to a reception following the ceremony where light refreshments will be available.

Gifts / Diploma Frames / Flowers

The bookstore will have a selection of gifts and frames available for purchase in the south gymnasium. Flowers will also be available for purchase.
