Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Collaborative program – BSCN

York University/Seneca College/Georgian College

Official program outline

Program description

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Collaborative program philosophy and curriculum incorporate and utilize the concepts of caring and human science as the basis of nursing practice. (Students work collaboratively with peers and faculty to explore nursing knowledge and caring).

In the classroom, learning activities focus on the nursing care of individuals, families, groups, and the global community. In the practice setting, under the guidance of a practicum mentor or preceptor, students integrate knowledge from program courses to provide holistic client-centred nursing care.

Why choose Georgian?

Our program introduces students to their clinical practicum experience in their first year of study. Our brand new Centre for Health and Wellness contains state-of-the-art simulation labs that focus on adult medical surgical, obstetrics, and pediatrics. Our students engage closely with our community partners during their time spent at the Barrie Campus.

Placement opportunities

Students in our program interact with key partners in our local and extended community such as long term care facilities, acute care hospitals and community agencies.  Students must provide their own transportation to and from their clinical placement and are expected to travel for some of their placements.

Lab/professional experience

Our students are able to participate in a variety of clinical experiences and settings. The experiences encompass primary, secondary and tertiary care settings while others are in our simulation lab where students interact with high fidelity human simulators.

Employment

Our BScN program will prepare students for careers in nursing that are incredibly varied or for continuing their studies into post–degree programs. Registered nurses are employed in a variety of settings and sectors such as hospitals, mental health agencies, public health units, long term care facilities, remote nursing stations, nursing pharmaceutical companies, occupational health and may function in a variety of roles such as direct practice, education, administration and research.

Entry-level salary range: Nurses in a hospital setting may start at a salary of  $32 to $35 per hour.
