Digital Photography and Imaging students in Georgian’s School of Design and Visual Arts (SDVA) will put their best work forward in this year’s juried exhibition, being held in the Campus Gallery, Barrie Campus, through March 28.

Judging has already taken place, so attendees will be seeing the students’ best work, including that of first-year student Greg Ivany. In his first juried photography competition, Ivany won third place with his untitled creative piece.

Other award winners include Cole Bennett, who won first place for his portrait styling in Angeline, and Aaron Wallace, who won second place with Thirsty Thoughts, a composite creation with imagination strong symbolism.

The opening reception for the show took place on March 11 and featured more than 90 qualifying images chosen by a panel of professionals in the photography field from as far west as Owen Sound and south to Toronto.

Honourable mentions went to second-year students Lynda Seward and Brittany Bechard and first-year students Stephen Goobie and Cody Mills, among others.

“The variety and diversity of images in the exhibition will offer creative expression in a diverse array from fashion to fine art and styled images that promise to be a colourful example of visual literacy created by up-and-coming photographic artists,” says Shannon Salvog, SDVA.

The Digital Photography and Imaging program was the first fully digital photography program offered in Ontario. The program has prided itself in showcasing the work of its students regularly since it first began fostering creativity and self-expression in 2003.

Digital Photography and Imaging, a two-year college diploma program, provides students with both the technical and visual communication skills required for a variety of careers related to photography and imaging.

Students work on three main areas: digital capture, imaging technologies and entrepreneurial skills.
