Free language training course for international health care workers
A new program at Georgian College can help Canadian newcomers obtain the occupation-specific language training they need to develop great careers in Canada.
Workplace Communication Skills for Health Care, a FREE work-oriented language course for those with experience in nursing, personal support work, dental hygiene and polysomnography (sleep clinics), is being offered at the Barrie Campus.
Current OSLT student Tess Luu says, “the class content is very useful for me to be successful in my nursing career in the future. Every minute in class is valuable!”
Training covers such topics as:
- Interacting with employers, peers and clients
- Writing e-mails, memos and reports
- Understanding occupation-specific vocabulary and workplace practices
- Searching for work in the field
- And much more
The course is part of the Occupation-Specific Language Training (OSLT) program, which is fully funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
Colleges Ontario, in partnership with the Colleges of Ontario Network for Education and Training (CON*NECT), is overseeing the pilot project at several Ontario colleges. The OSLT program addresses five priority sectors: health sciences, business, technology, human services and skilled trades.
