Vince Carbert‘s list of “to-do’s” in preparation for the 23rd Annual Georgian College Golf Classic include co-ordinating logistics and preparing staff members to receive the hundreds of golfers who will descend on The Club at Bond Head on Monday, May 17. Carbert is a tournament sales co-ordinator at the nationally ranked golf course.
By the time the day rolls around, Carbert will have logged about 100 hours in preparation for the golf tournament, but he says the extra effort is worth it.
“The Georgian College Golf Classic is the first charity golf tournament at Bond Head this season, so there’s a fair amount of set-up to be done,” he said. “But we’re excited and honoured to be the new host of the tournament and know it will be a great fit for golfers and students alike.”
In addition to acting as the host facility, The Club at Bond Head also has a history of providing both co-operative work placements for Georgian College students in golf-related and hospitality and tourism programs, as well as for graduates.
The club has, in particular, supported Georgian’s Business Administration – Professional Golf Management program and the new Bachelor of Applied Business – Golf Management degree by having staff members sit on College advisory committees.
The Georgian College Golf Classic is one of the longest-running charity golf tournaments in Simcoe County. The tournament has raised more than $730,000 in support of student awards and scholarships to date.
Funds raised through the Georgian College Golf Classic benefit the Power of Education campaign, an initiative to improve and expand key areas at the College including health and science, skilled trades, hospitality and tourism and the awards and scholarships program in general.
