The College Committee on Disability Issues (CCDI) is hosting its annual conference at the Deerhurst Conference Centre in Huntsville May 17 to 20. The conference, which is sponsored in part by Georgian, is open to all College employees.
CCDI conducts research and makes recommendations on system-wide issues, policies and practices affecting students with disabilities.
The conference, βIt All Starts Here: Transitioning from Secondary School to College or University,β will highlight issues surrounding the transition from secondary school to college or university to employment. The program covers three tracks β Adaptive Technology, Learning Strategies and Transition/Employment β and will benefit faculty and staff members who have regular contact with students with disabilities.
The agenda includes speakers from the Microcomputer Science Centre, PowerCaption/ScholarLab, Research in Motion, University of Toronto, Wilfred Laurier University, Queens University and Microsoft, to name a few.
Renowned singer/songwriter Justin Hines (pictured), who lives with a rare genetic joint condition called Larsen Syndrome, will perform in a free evening concert May 19 as part of the conference.
