Dan Mallory event at Georgian’s Barrie Campus March 11
Dan Mallory (back row centre), a Simcoe County resident and member of the Rotary Club of Barrie, will bring his incredible story of conquering Mount Everest with his family to the Georgian College Theatre at the Barrie Campus on Thursday, March 11.
ABOUT DAN MALLORY
Dan began his quest to climb the seven summits (the highest mountain on each continent), with at least one member of his family, 23 years ago. Climbing Mount Everest with his wife and three adult children was the most recent challenge.
Risking everything from hypothermia and frostbite to pulmonary and cerebral edema (blood leaking into the lungs or brain), the family set out in May of 2008. Wife Barbara fell during the climb and tore her Achilles tendon, which forced her to abandon the rest of the climb. However Dan, sons Adam and Alan and daughter Laura completed the ascent. The family’s story was featured in Explore Magazine in May of this year.
The public is invited to learn more about the harrowing journey through his talk and slide show presentation. Local band Streetlights will play at 6:30 p.m., followed by Dan’s presentation at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for students and $20 for the general public. They’re available in the Barrie Campus Students’ Administrative Council office in A Building or at www.ticketbreak.com.
The event is presented by Georgian’s student chapter of The International Ecotourism Society.
