Stand Up and Take Action Against Poverty rally at Barrie Campus Oct. 15
Georgian College’s annual Stand Up and Take Action Against Poverty rally will take place tomorrow, Thursday Oct. 15 at 10:50 a.m. in front of the Barrie Campus Library Commons at the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) booth.
At precisely 11 a.m. students, faculty and staff will be asked to “stand up” against poverty and support the Millennium Development Goals, as advocated by the United Nations and WUSC.
Before the rally and reading of the pledge, WUSC committee members will man an information booth in front of the library and host a red and white-themed bake sale. There will also be free Fair Trade coffee, tea and hot chocolate for those with travel mugs.
The idea behind this event is to get as many students, faculty and staff out as possible. This event is about global awareness and action, so the more people there, the better.
However brief the event may be, it is a part of a global initiative to Stand Up and Take Action Against Poverty and development issues. Stand Up and Take Action Against Poverty rallies and events will be held worldwide between Oct. 16 and 18.
