batecarroll1Georgian College received good news from Barrie MPP Aileen Carroll today in the form of $4.2-million in operating funds from the province. The one-time grant is in response to Georgian’s higher than expected enrolment and will help the College continue to deliver high-quality education to students and provide upgrades to facilities and learning resources. Georgian’s full-time student enrolment has reached almost 10,000 across its seven campuses – this is an eight per cent increase from this time last year. Applications for this fall are strong and will undoubtedly result in new enolment records for the College.

Sharon Bate of Georgian College’s Board of Governors said that with the growth Georgian has seen in its student population, it has become even more critical that the funding level keep pace.

“This funding will help achieve that,” she said.

As the College grows, so too will the demand for more teachers, equipment and facilities. Georgian Students’ Administrative Council president Antonio Fanioudakis said Georgian students stand to benefit most from the funding and that the money will help Georgian do what it has traditionally done best – provide students with the best possible education.
