The 2010 Goldsmithing Graduate Exhibition, Bijoux D’argent, is now underway at Georgian’s Barrie Campus. A preview  took place April 30, to coincide with the grand opening of the School of Design and Visual Arts (SDVA) Scholarship Show.

The student-led, province-wide tour is a way for students to gain practical experience and make valuable contacts in the industry ahead of graduation.

Students in the graduating class worked together to decide at which venues to show their works as well as planning and logistics.

In addition to showing at the Barrie Campus, the five-city tour will make stops at galleries in Caledonia, Kanata, Ridgetown and Toronto.

Students will attend the opening day at each gallery and their wares, which include custom-made jewellery and hollowware, will be available for sale.

Bijoux D’argent will feature the works of Dianne Cardoso, Ya-Wen Cheung, Anna Duncan, Jessica Martin, Judith Mercier, Robin Pouw, Broderick Quinlan, Sofia Roy and Karina Shinkaruk.

Goldsmithing and Silversmithing, a one-year post-graduate diploma program, is aimed at students who wish to pursue silversmithing as a self-directed career.

Students learn to refine their jewellery and metalworking skills, acquire design skills and produce and market jewellery, flatware and hollowware.

Graduates typically find employment in jewellery and fine metal manufacturing, jewellery retailing, custom studios, or as self-employed jewellery and/or metal designers.
