The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) confirmed its first case of Influenza H1N1 yesterday, May 4. SMDHU has reported the case was mild and the affected individual did not need to be hospitalized.
Georgian College continues to work in collaboration with SMDHU, receiving updated information on the H1N1 virus and on best practices to manage the spread of the virus. HR Services will continue to provide this information to employees and students on a regular basis.
The SMDHU Medical Officer of Health has re-stated that the most effective ways to reduce the risk of illness are:
- Washing hands thoroughly and frequently
- Coughing/sneezing into your sleeve
- Staying home if you are ill
- Contacting your medical professional if you have flu-like symptoms
