Georgian hosts engineering technology open house and career fair
Georgian’s Centre for Co-operative Education, Internship and Career Services hosted an Engineering Technology Open House and Career Fair at the Barrie Campus July 22.
The event included an employer panel, information booths and opportunities for employers to meet with students, accept their resumés and schedule interviews.
Other participants included alumni and second-year students looking to get ahead on career planning.
The event was sponsored by the Centre for Co-operative Education, Internship and Career Services under the direction of Lisa Whalen.
“The Centre for Co-operative Education, Internship and Career Services felt it was important to create opportunities to connect students and graduates with actively hiring employers during this period of economic uncertainty,” she said.
“We felt the best way to do this was through an open house and career fair.”
The day generated positive feedback from employers and students as well as several success stories.
Some students re-connected with their former co-op employers and learned about full-time opportunities available to them. Other graduates and alumni learned about manufacturing-related positions in other provinces and several of them were offered full-time jobs on-the-spot with some of the participating employers.
“I’m confident that as the resumés are reviewed and follow-up interviews are scheduled, we’ll hear even more ‘happy endings’,” says Whalen.
