Georgian’s Hospitality and Tourism, International Centre host Costa Rican students
Last month, four hospitality and tourism students and a teacher from Costa Rica’s Cartago University visited Georgian to learn more about the Canadian education system. They were greeted by Georgian’s Hospitality and Tourism Dean Joe Fruchter and the department’s staff and faculty at a welcome barbecue in the Barrie Campus Georgian Dining Room.
The group spent the week auditing classes and testing language training software in the new ESL (English as a Second Language) lab.
Other highlights of the week-long trip included joining first-year Tourism and Travel students on a tour of Horseshoe Resort and various attractions in the Midland area. They also enjoyed a Students’ Administrative Council boat cruise and jaunts to Niagara Falls, the Muskoka Wildlife Centre and Algonquin Park, where they canoed, hiked and roasted marshmallows over a campfire.
In addition to practising their English, they also learned more about environmental sustainability at the Bartlett Lodge in Algonquin Park. The students say they were thrilled with their time at Georgian and hope to return to the College sometime in the near future.
