Annual Georgian College Golf Classic raises more than $772,000
This year’s Georgian College Golf Classic, held May 17, was a sold-out success with more than 288 golfers converging on The Club at Bond Head for the 23rd annual event.
The money is still being counted, but this year’s proceeds are expected to push the total amount raised to date for student awards and scholarships to more than $772,000.
About $50,000 was raised this year, with $27,500 of that total coming from the silent and live auction, a tournament record. Corporate sponsors contributed just under $54,000, which is also a record.
Funds were also raised through individual and team registrations. Items for the silent and live auction were donated by Georgian’s industry partners and generous staff and faculty members.
Shaun McCracken, a recent graduate of the Professional Golf Management program, spoke to participants about the importance of the awards and scholarships program.
“Georgian donors are part of the greater College community, which includes staff, faculty, administrators and other students. Without the generous support of donors, many students would not be able to continue their studies at Georgian College or the University Partnership Centre,” he said.
“Awards and scholarships are a vital part of education at Georgian and events like this really show how much support we have from our corporate and community partners.”
Major sponsors at this year’s tournament included Casino Rama, Cisco Canada, Gallivan and Associates, the Georgian College Alumni Association, Johnson Insurance and Top Notch Building Maintenance.
