LU, UPC degree students invited to attend field school in Costa Rica

Submitted by on Wednesday, 3 March 2010No Comment

Students interested in experiencing anthropology research first-hand and learning more about this exciting discipline in a field study will get the chance at a Laurentian University-led student trip this summer.

Laurentian students, and students from other University Partnership Centre (UPC) degree programs at Georgian College, are invited to attend a field school at a biological station in a remote area of Costa Rica.

Over the course of nine weeks, students will examine conservation management from an applied anthropology perspective and earn six credits toward their degrees.

The full course runs May 26 to July 29, with three weeks in the field.

Students will work in an online environment before heading out into the field and will resume online learning after the field study. From July 14 to July 5, they will carry out research at Cano Palma Biological Station, which is managed by the Canadian Organization for Tropical Education and Rainforest Conservation.

This unique experience will expose students to tropical ecology, conservation management, multiple research projects and a biocultural approach to applied research. Students must meet minimal qualifications to take the course.

FOR MORE INFORMATION

Students interested in the field study may contact Dr. Kymberley Anne Snarr at ksnarr@georgianc.on.ca.
