green-light-bulb4Georgian’s Environmental Sustainability Committee offers the following tips about how to reduce energy use in the office:

  • Turn off lights, computers and projectors when leaving your office or classroom;
  • Consider putting all of your electronic equipment on a power bar for easy shut down at the end of the day;
  • Learn how to adjust your thermostat to maintain a constant temperature. If you need assistance or are uncomfortable with the temperature in your work area, please contact Physical Resources at ext. 5215.  Remember: Individual office heaters use additional energy and may destabilize the temperature as sensors will cause additional cooling once hot spots are detected;
  • Keep blinds and shades open during the winter months and closed during the summer;
  • Consider using “task lighting” to concentrate light where it is needed, rather than over an entire room; and,
  • Report wasteful energy practices or opportunities for energy savings to either Physical Resources or members of the Environmental Sustainability Committee.
