The UPC is proud to present this year’s Writer/Publisher in Residence, Marty Gervais, who will be on the Barrie Campus on Tuesday, October 19 and Wednesday October 20 to present workshops on writing and publishing your creative work.
Gervais has been Entertainment and Religions Editor for The Windsor Star, has written over 40 books of poetry, non-fiction, drama and prose. He is the Publisher of Black Moss Press and Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Windsor. He is being given an honorary doctorate by the University of Windsor on Friday, October 15.
Marty Gervais will be giving a presentation on How to Publish Your Creative Work (poetry, short fiction, non-fiction, and children’s literature) on Tuesday, October 19 from 9 am to 11 am in Rm A248,
He will be offering one on one “blue pencil” feedback and editorial sessions with writers (or you can drop by just to discuss your ideas and aspirations about writing) on Tuesday Oct 19 in Rm C310N from 2pm to 5 pm. A sign up sheet will be posted on the door of C310N as of 9 am on Friday morning for students who wish to get some feedback on their writing.
Gervais will be reading on Tuesday Oct 19 from 9 pm to 11 pm as part of Barrie’s off-campus monthly reading series, The Society of the Spoken Word (founded and run by former LU@G students) at the Second Cup on Dunlop Street opposite Fred Grant Square. Admission is free.
On Wednesday, Oct 20 from 9 am to 11 am, Gervais will hold a special seminar on his journalism experiences (some in Kurdistan with the Iraqi Olympic boxing team) — he has interviewed Mother Theresa, Desmond Tutu, Jonn Paul II and a host of other famous figures — in Rm A247.
In the afternoon of Wed Oct 20, Gervais will be visiting Professor Meyer’s ENGL 2006 class to discuss his writing (K220B) and interested students are invited to drop by.
