Childhood Development I
ECED 1022 - CRN 20107 - Credit Course:
Child development I provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of human development: the study of how people change over time. Part One introduces the student to the beginnings of the study of human development: research methods and designs, theories of development, the workings of heredity, and sequences of development from conception to birth. Part Two examines the development of the child during the first two years of life, the rapid and radical changes during the relatively brief period, individual differences in patterns of development, and inter-relations between the child and his/her world.

Observing the Young Child
ECED 1023 - CRN 20108 - Credit Course:
Observing as the primary method for gathering information about young children will be the focus of the course. Students will develop skills in the implementation of a range of observation techniques including descriptive narratives, time samplings, event samplings, anecdotal records frequently counts checklists, charts and mappings. Note: The observation data collected during this course will be utilized in the Child Development II course. Students must retain their agreement/permission forms from this course which will be submitted when taking the Child Development II course.

Supervision and Administration
ECED 2020 - CRN 20110- Credit Course:
This course is designed to give students an understanding of the administrative procedures and the supervisory functions required to operate a child care program. Emphasis will be placed on development of technical and interpersonal skills that ensure an efficient operation.

Working with Parents
ECED 2019 - CRN 20109- Credit Course:
This course is designed to assist students in working effectively with parents. The dual role of parents - as a resource and client will be examined. In addition the role of child care as a resource and support system to families will be identified. RATIONALE: In Working with Parents the student will learn how to communicate effectively with parents. Parent meetings will be a major focus of attention. The skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate parent meetings will be developed. Additional methods for conveying information to parents will be identified. The other area to be addressed is supporting families who are facing difficult issues or who have concerns which need to be addressed by the staff of the centre.
