Brian Tamblyn, President and CEO
With more than 25 years of college management experience, Brian Tamblyn held various vice-presidential portfolios in the areas of human resources, student services and community and business development before his 1999 appointment as President and CEO of one of Ontario’s leading community colleges.
In addition to leading Georgian College, Brian also serves on a number of committees for the provincial college system. As well, he has served as a volunteer to a number of community groups, including Royal Victoria Hospital, the YMCA, Barrie Minor Hockey, and many more including his current role as Chair of the Lake Simcoe Co-ordinating Comittee. In 2003, he was awarded The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for his strong support of community development.
Brian’s educational accomplishments include a Master of Education degree (M.Ed) from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Administrative Studies (B.A.S.), a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (B.A.) from York University. He has been awarded two Honorary Doctorate degrees, a Doctor of Laws from Northwood University, and a Doctor of Sacred Letters from Huntington University. In addition, he is a Certified Human Resources Professional (C.H.R.P.) designated by the Human Resources Professionals’ Association.

What do you like to read?
My favourite reading materials are The Globe and Mail, for catching up on the news; and National Geographic magazine, both for relaxation and expanding my knowledge about the world around us.
Tell us about your family and pets.
I moved to Barrie in 1961 and to Orillia, where I now live, in 2005. I attended Steele Street Public School and Eastview Secondary School in Barrie. I am married to Lisa, and I also have a teenage son, Evan. We all enjoy the company of Madigan, our Golden Retriever.
How do you stay healthy and fit?
I really enjoy walking. Some of my other favourite activities include golf, snowshoeing and working out at Georgian College’s fitness centres in Barrie and Orillia.
What do you hope the future of Georgian will look like?
I hope Georgian will become an even stronger post-secondary educational hub, serving Central Ontario and the north GTA, with a continued focus on individual student pathways and success.
