Mark your calendar for the event of the summer, the grand opening of the Centre for Health and Wellness! The event will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the Barrie Campus.

This is the largest academic expansion in Georgian College history! Staff are invited to tour the new facility from 1 to 4 p.m.

“The grand opening is going to be like no other,” says Hank Thibideau, Manager, Corporate Events and Community Relations. “This is a big milestone for Georgian and the grand opening event is going to reflect that.”

Students will be attending classes at the centre this September, a dream come true for all who were involved in the planning of this extensive project.

The complex nature of the facility stems from the infrastructure required to service the hospital-like environment. Numerous rooms need water, gas and special air handling and exhaust, such as the chemistry and biology labs and the new Oral Health Clinic. There simply isn’t any other building like it at the Barrie Campus.

The interior will include:

  • Seven dental instruction rooms, a materials lab and 10 radiography suites
  • 44 massage tables and a separate classroom/exercise treatment room
  • Two facial and body treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure classrooms
  • A mock apartment, complete with a bedroom and full bathroom for paramedic and personal support worker students to practice care with patients and emergency medical situations
  • An OB and pediatric area with a birthing simulator, along with high fidelity patient simulation
  • Pharmacy retail and hospital dispensing labs
  • A fabrication/surfacing lab, dispensing lab and state-of-the-art contact lens lab
  • University-caliber science labs and much more!
