What’s the next step to becoming a GRIZZLY? Attend our Get Connected pre-orientation event for the chance to visit campus ahead of time and avoid line-ups on the first day of classes. Here’s the essential to-do list:
- purchase a parking pass
- pick up your Universal Bus Pass (for full-time Barrie students)
- activate your fitness centre membership and complete the PAR-Q form
- get your Georgian College ONEcard (student card)
- order your books
- learn about your health insurance
- connect with your student advisor
- complete the Mentee application form to be paired with a Peer Mentor (Georgian College student who “knows the ropes”)
- learn about the student portal, Banner, Blackboard and student email
- meet other students
- take a campus tour
- attend an academic writing workshop that will provide you with a FREE Grammarly® Premium login

Orientation sets the tone for your college career. Whether you’re a mature student, directly out of high school, transferring, commuting, coming from another country or whatever your situation, orientation is your chance to connect!
Reasons to come to Orientation
Meet the faculty: Introduce yourself and spark new relationships with our President and CEO, professors, deans and program co-ordinators.
Follow the flow: Learn first-hand what your classes will be like and ask questions about textbooks, papers or missed classes.
Free your mind: Students who attend Orientation feel more connected and comfortable on campus.
Get involved: Student clubs, on-campus jobs and volunteer work are waiting for people just like you.
Supercharged services: Find out how to get help with study skills, tutoring and counselling, and learn about our athletic facilities and programs.
Save the date for Orientation for the winter 2019 semester on Monday, Jan. 7. Campus-specific schedules will be posted as they become available.
Peer mentors are upper-year students who help first-year students transition to college life and the community. Students from all campuses can participate.

As a mentee (someone who is being mentored), you will know that there is someone there to assist you with navigating the campus and its various services. Your mentor will provide you with tips to help you succeed in your new learning environment. Please fill out the application. Do you have a passion to get involved and about an hour a week to spare? As a peer mentor, you can make a positive impact in a new student’s Georgian experience. You will receive training for this role. Please fill out the application on the student portal. After it is accepted, you will be contacted by email about the next steps.
Interested in joining the Orientation team?
Start out as one of our SWAT (Student Welcoming and Activities Team) volunteers. Under the guidance of transition leaders, you will assist with such events as: Get Connected, Orientation day, StressFree Day and many more!
