Getting involved with Georgian College Students’ Association (GCSA) is easy. Each campus has opportunities for you to represent your fellow students and get more out of your college/university experience. All it takes is you – anything is possible!

Stop by the GCSA office and ask about the many ways to become part of something great.

The Georgian College Students’ Association (GCSA) has numerous opportunities for students to get involved.

  • become a part of GCSA by running for an executive or director position in the annual election (held in January) – visit the election page for details
  • join the SAA (Students’ Athletic Association) by running for a position in the annual election (held in February) – visit the election page for details
  • get involved on the GCSA Promo Crew to help promote and set up for events – email Jack Humphrey or follow us on Facebook for opportunities
  • become employed by a GCSA business such as The Last Class, the First Class Café and the Athletic and Fitness Centre – see the “Jobs on campus” link below for details
  • become part of the Orientation team by volunteering or applying for a paid position – visit georgiancollege.ca/orientation for details
  • volunteer to help out with the Georgian Food Locker program – email Christopher Sheridan for availability
  • join or start a student club – visit georgiancollege.ca/GCSA/clubs-associations for more information
  • attend a GCSA board meeting to learn how your money is being spent and to voice your opinion – email Dhruv Patel if you wish to attend

Barrie: Jobs on campus

There are many opportunities to get a job on campus. If you’re good with computers, you can work in the library or Printing Services. If you’re social and like to talk to people, you could serve in the TLC or work in the Athletic and Fitness Centre. If you know a lot about Georgian College, you may want to give campus tours for prospective students. If you like to help people out with school, you can work in Peer Services.

If you want to represent Georgian College students, help decide what events and activities should run, and have a say in how student fees are spent, then consider running for a position on the Georgian College Students’ Association (GCSA).

Being part of the GCSA executive allows you to:

  • Get to know other student leaders.
  • Spruce up your resumé for graduation.
  • Put some extra money in your pocket.

GCSA executive elections run every year in January and February. Position term is from May 1 to April 30, 2019. All positions are paid an honorarium.

To become a GCSA executive member

Elections begin in January for the following year. Pick up your election package from the GCSA office. Please complete the package and submit it by the due date.

To attend a GCSA event

Tickets for GCSA events are available in the GCSA office, but most events are FREE! Just show up at the right place at the right time. GCSA events are posted under the GCSA events page.

Orillia: Directors

GCSA director’s represent their programs to the GCSA executive. There is one director per program from all programs at the Georgian College Orillia Campus.

If you’d like to apply to become a GCSA director, please fill out the GCSA director election package and submit it in September.

Director duties:

  • serve as the primary liaison between the Orillia Campus GCSA executive and the student population
  • attend monthly GCSA director meetings
  • touch base each week with the VP Internal to obtain updates
  • show your school spirit, promote GCSA events, activities and initiatives and maintain strong communication with classmates

As an incentive for their time, directors shall:

  • receive a director shirt to wear around school and at GCSA events
  • receive an invitation to attend the annual year-end awards night – Dine and Bash
  • be given front-of-the-line passes to all GCSA events
  • be included in pre-sale of tickets to all GCSA events
  • receive free cover to all GCSA-hosted pub nights
  • receive a reference letter at the end of their term
  • receive an honorarium of $50 per semester for completing above duties

Orillia: Activities crew

The Promo Crew is GCSA’s volunteer promotional team. Promo team members assist in promoting all GCSA events activities and initiatives, receive free cover into all GCSA-run pubs, an invitation to the annual year-end award night – Dine and Bash, are given front-of-the-line passes to all GCSA events, and get a reference letter at the end of the year.

Owen Sound: SWAT

The Student Welcoming and Activities Team (SWAT) are students who want to get involved, volunteer with the GCSA, and make sure new students at Georgian College are having a good time. SWAT members are needed for Orientation, Preview and Open House. SWAT promotes positivity across the campus while providing support to anyone in need.

Why should you become a SWAT Member?

  • to enhance your communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • to make new friends and interact with incoming students
  • work in a team and leadership position
  • receive a letter of appreciation for your portfolio
